![]() Vice President RAeC, Barrister of the Middle Temple I like our sport the way it is and I like to see comps as a way of developing wings, not as a way of fixing old designs in aspic.īHPA Chairman. Likewise, in the run up to the last games, the number of classes was reduced and in deciding which class got dropped, the monohulls ganged up on the multihulls and dropped the only multihull class - the Tornado. High performance skiffs have been around for years and yet it was only 2 Games ago that they finally got in. And once you have a standard class - it is incredibly difficult to get it changed as development goes on. Firstly there would be lots of bickering about the design of the standard class glider and then every pilot who aspired to fly in the Games would want to fly the Standard class glider - thus shutting down development of the higher performance wings such as the CCC wings. No doubt this would be a high end C so as to ensure maximum safety in the very public environment of the Olympics. The Olympic ethic is that variations in equipment must be removed so that the test is purely that of the human - so as in Sailing we would have to have a standard class glider. It would have a seriously distorting effect on the sport. Personally, I would be against trying to get XC HG or PG into the Olympics. I suspect it would elicit a Joe Faust manifesto, but perhaps not. Posted: Tue 10:39 UTC Post subject: RE: Olympic sport 2020 Hang glider pilots are quite opposed to any involvement in the Olympics for hang gliding (see the ridiculous Air Games in Dubai - ) so I can't imagine even the most curmudgeon among us would care one way or the other whether paragliding is an Olympic sport. I read today that paragliding did not make the short list today. Posted: Tue 5:01 UTC Post subject: RE: Olympic sport 2020 They already see us as usurpers to their dynasty. There is a small and very vocal group of curmudgeon hang glider pilots that would blow a gasket if this happens. Anybody on here asked their opinion? Posted: Mon 16:43 UTC Post subject: RE: Olympic sport 2020 OK, so unlikely to make the shortlist, but you never know. Similar to many games marketing to extreme sports, it will feature sponsorships from several companies such as Red Bull, Salomon, Santa Cruz, and more. Many elements from Steep will return such as Snowboarding, hang gliding, and parachuting. The game will also put emphasis on completing challenges so you can unlock more gear. Despite this, you will still be able to play the game solo if you prefer. The game is an MMO of sorts, dropping you into a world filled with players and allowing you to compete against them in tons of challenges. The games follow very similar structures so it can be assumed Riders is also intended as a long project. Developer Ubisoft Annecy, developed the open-world Snowboarding title as their first game as the lead in 2016 and has continued to support it since then. Riders Republic is more or less a spiritual successor to Steep.
